Who doesn’t love beach huts? It’s not just the many colours they come in that I love but the fact that they represent fresh air and freedom. That’s why I felt the urge to make one with textile and wire. I just couldn’t get the idea out of my head so had to go with it. This particular beach hut is in the brightest colours. I created the main body of the hut with dozens of strips of fabric, all overlayed to create a planked effect, and the door and the roof are both embroidered and textured with rafia. I’ve added buoys at the bottom left hand corner, to create a festival feel I’ve hung teeny bright pompoms across the roof and all of this has been topped off with a felt and embroidered seagull (don’t show him your bag of chips, whatever you do). Of course, it comes with a loop at the top so you can hang it wherever you need to be reminded of sunny days and sandy hands.
